I'm fascinated/disgusted/horrified by the lobotomy "craze" that happened in the middle part of last century and have done a ton of research in the area, not only about Rosemary but also others tangentially "famous" (e.g. I remembered hearing that Rosemary had some disabilities, and that her father had her undergo a lobotomy, but I didn't know much more than that.Most of what I know about the Kennedy family I learned from my mother. I've read many books about the Kennedy's, although none about Rosemary even though I was aware of what happened to her, which was tragic. I found this detracted considerably from the book as a whole. Oddly enough this book is more about Joe and Rose than about Rosemary. I found the book repetitive and I must say, I never finished it. I'm assuming that's the case because so much time and energy was spent trying to change her, hide her, "fix" her, and keep her hidden so she wouldn't be an embarrassment to the family. He writes to his father that he has heard much condemnation of Hitler and his party but he feels he should be given a chance. This book is very nearShe kept a journal and its all in there . Had just finished reading The Camelot Years, so was looking forward to this book. In my opinion, it had very little information about Rosemary Kennedy and was very general about her condition. Maybe one day Rosemary will have a voice and we'll get to hear her story, but I doubt it. Yet Rosemary was intellectually disabled, a secret fiercely guarded by her powerful and glamorous family.
