MPC Space: 1999 Hawk Mk IX 1:72 Scale Model Kit MPC Space: 1999 Eagle II Model - Preassembled Painted Model of The Eagle II Spaceship 1/72 Scale 22 inch Handcrafted Replica of The Original Model Used to Film Space: 1999 Basically you could plunk down $10.00 for a diecast Dinky toy ( which for a toy was actually pretty nice, except for the horrible green color ), or you could pony up about $4.00 for this model ( originally released in the U.S. by Fundimensions - A division of MPC ). The problem with this kit is that it's really inaccurate. It was obviously designed to be easy for children to assemble. Also, the framework that surrounds most of the craft is here molded as solid pieces, rather than with the open spaces that expose the inner parts of the hull.

I first bought this kit in the 1970's,built it as a toy kit.I have now rebought it,super detailed it ,and weathered it dramatically. It is a great kit to do this to!With a lot of and patience,it becomes a wonderfull display piece. The transporter module,is to say the least, poor in quality, and detail. But with some imagination, time, and a lot of plastic,it can become a fully detailed piece.I am still in the final process of weathering, and detailing. If you should buy this kit,1/350th scale, spray it flat gull grey, wash with a grimy black, and drybrush with flat white. The results are outstanding!Engine oxidizers, gunmetal blue, liquid pods, gunmetal, and nacells, flat aluminum, all washed with grimy black(polly, railroad paint).
