This afternoon, the kite surfers are parking behind the lot. (Also known as Route 1 or 101 or Highway 1 or 101.) The shoreline, which is a mix of sand and rocks, frames a 953-feet-long pier. There are benches if you choose to sit and relax a while. This is not LA, where the beaches have no parking outside of their lots and so many people that those wishing to use the beach will have to end up parking miles away to get to the sand, not to mention hauling surf boards and gear and changing in and out of their wetsuits in adjoining neighborhoods.Our pier is closed.
