It's great for dogs (off leash allowed), kids, family, etc. Most of the sharks that are landed are smoothhounds and leopard sharks along with the closely related bat rays and skates. An interesting feature of the restaurant is that some tables have class partitions in them that allow patrons to see down into the murky waters beneath the pier.

It was soon time to go, but I kept trying for just one more fish.I finally began to leave but on the way out I decided to tarry for just a few more minutes, I wanted to see what might be available by the rocks at the shore-end base of the pier. There are a few entrepreneurs set-up on the sand offering kayak rentals, dog washes, beach chairs, sand toys, etc...The water was gentle and it would be fun to kayak or paddle board. I missed the first strike but not the next.

Port San Luis Harbor is a shining jewel of the Central Coast of California. Will remeber you if your a regular. Port San Luis Camping is some of the best camping on the Central Coast of CA.

Great place to visit see some sea lions just chillin and some pier fishing as well. In the spring, you can fish for halibut, salmon, and mackerel. wait... why was there a big maintenance truck on the pier?!?! We came a few days early and set up since its first come first serve.

Take Avila Beach Dr. to the end of the road and park at the Harford Pier parking lot.

The result was a 9-pound starry flounder, a huge flounder for any pier and doubly interesting because it was caught on a bait rig. The restaurants in this are very good as well.Off Avila Beach drive before the port, there is a long strip of beach. Fishing normally requires a license from the state of California, but you are legally allowed to fish without a license from one of the two public piers: The Harford Pier in Port San Luis and the Avila Beach pier in downtown Avila. I must say I do love this place.We RV camped at this place recently. I had fished far too late (because it was nearly 1 A.M. when I finished), but I had caught quantity and quality and experienced a terrific time fishing in the shirtsleeve weather late at night.Due to its length, the pier extends out into fairly deep water.
