A staff member had had to ring the polis to rid the hotel of this pig. We were welcomed cheerily and professionally, despite the recent power cut! Breakfast was good (full breakfast ordered), and the dining room was very nice. I didn't like the breakfast much.

The lounge bar wasn't open at the time of year I visited but the public bar was a bit 'rough and ready' although the staff, as everywhere else were pleasant and helpful.Stayed for three nights, off-season, so it was quiet. Breakfast was good (full breakfast ordered), and the dining room was very nice. Much to see and do here, and this was a great place to stay while in Kirkwall.Very disappointed with hotel after reading past reviews, shower in room 22 needs a good clean with grout and mildew cleaner.Damp patches under window. Breakfast was awful, I ordered scrambled eggs, which I couldn't eat ,tomato tasted as if it been in deep fryer, mushrooms and beans were cold although plate was hot.Smart and comfortable in a central location, with an excellent restaurantThis hotel is well appointed and the photos on this webpage do the rooms justice. The restaurant was equally excellent for supper and breakfast. Hotel is on the waterfront, and a 1 minute walk to the High Street. I must say bed was clean and comfortable. Many people visit The Shore to try nicely cooked salmon, scallops and meat pies.Tasty pudding, cheesecakes and ice cream can make a good impression on you.

Old Man of Hoy is 19 miles from the venue and Ness of Brogdar is about 9 miles away. If I'd been able to pre-book then the price would have been much lower.....The rooms in this hotel are clean and the bed comfortable but the shower, single bed, was rather cramped. Yes, it offers reduced mobility rooms.

Kirkwall Orkney With a reputation for simple, well presented, well served meals, taking breakfast, lunch, dinner - or just a coffee and a cake - at The Shore, has fast become a 'must-do' when in Kirkwall. So, maybe, the breakfast was poor because of this incident. The room cost nearly £100 (conveniently close to St.Cath's Place, my home for almost 15 years and on the sea front).
