So only a year or so had passed before Red got paroled and probably only a couple weeks before he decided to find Andy, which isn't too risky overall. After all, the sisters have clearly targeted other prisoners prior to Andy's arrival, without any apparent reaction from the prison staff.

During a break between takes, director Andy only pinned the top two corners and lifted the poster up and into the hole when he escaped. Also, while Andy is the main focus, the story is also about Red. The Norwegian title is "Frihetens Regn" ("The Rain of Freedom").

Norton instead offers Tommy a chance to be transferred to a minimum security prison with more privileges (furloughs with his wife, increased visitation, etc) in another part of Maine if he keeps quiet about the evidence that could clear Andy's name. Who was he?Why does Hadley beat Boggs after he is released from isolation?Why would Andy get Hadley arrested? In the final scene, Red walks up the beach in Zihuatanejo where he finds a sun-tanned Andy Dufresne sanding down the bow of his fishing boat.

The Norton in the film is a composite character of the other wardens, a way to tighten the story up; (5) In the book, Tommy is not murdered by Hadley on orders from the warden. The name of the In real life, inmates use toothpaste to hang posters in the cells today. Forensic ballistics did exist in the 1940s. The Shawshank prison, in the book and in the movie, was loosely based on Thomaston prison, an aging prison located in Thomaston, Maine. This had more Oscar nominations than other other Stephen king movie.

Written in 1939 by Paul Evan Lehman, "Calamity Range" is described as a fiction publication about finding retribution and vendetta, set in the western United States. Shawshank was actually Darabont’s second adaptation from King’s work, though the first, an adaptation of the short story “The Woman in the Room”, you will probably never have heard of. It might have been the perfect crime, a seemingly accidental death, if his wife hadn't picked up a friend and her infant child. Despite being widely considered as one of the greatest movies of all time, it didn't receive a single Oscar win, though it was nominated for seven, including Best Picture. In 1966, it was still a small fishing village, which matches how Andy first described it to Red, but has since grown into a large tourist city. When Fat Ass was beaten to death, no prisoners would dare try and rat on Hadley. It's likely that it was reported that Fat Ass was attacked and killed by a fellow inmate. In the movie, Red says, "I committed murder," when Andy asks him why he's in Shawshank. The novella explains it in detail; Red is serving three life sentences for murdering his wife, his neighbor's wife, and his neighbor's son.

This deletion ends up providing a subtle thematic shift; as scripted, both Brooks and Jake represent the dangers of institutionalization, but as depicted on screen, Jake ends up foreshadowing Andy's successful escape in the climax of the film.
